The history of these places is connected with the legendary Razumovsky family. In the neighboring village of Lemeshi, the Rozums brothers were born, who later became: Aleksey - the secret husband of the Russian Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, and Kirill - the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and then the hetman of Ukraine.

11:00 Transfer to Nizhyn - an ancient city with more than 1000 years of history. Nizhyn was a large trade and military center during the time of B. Khmelnitsky, here Nikolai Gogol studied at the local gymnasium, the city was famous for its architectural structures.

The city was founded in 1575 as the capital of the hetman Ukraine. This is a city with a majestic and glorious history of the Cossack capital, which was the seat of four Ukrainian hetmans:

1669 - 1672 - Demyan the Many-sinful

1672-1687 - Ivan Samoilovich

1687 - 1708 - Ivan Mazepa

1750 - 1764 Kirill Razumovsky.

After I. Mazepa went over to the side of the Swedes, the city was razed to the ground by the troops of A. Menshikov. Baturin was restored by Hetman Kirill Razumovsky, where he moved his residence.

In 1799-1803 a palace was built here by the project of the famous architect Charles Cameron, but Count K. Razumovsky was not destined to live in it - he died in 1803.

The complete reconstruction of the palace was completed in the spring of 2009 and now pleases visitors with a new exposition "The Hetman's Capital".

Among the architectural monuments in Baturyn you will see: the Razumovskys' house-estate and the tombs in the Resurrection Church, Mazepa's country residence, a memorial cross, the Mikolo-Krupitsky monastery, Kochubei park, founded in the early 18th century and the centuries-old oaks that have survived to this day.
